Symbian Foundation and Teleca
Nokia announced on 24 June 2008 that the Symbian Foundation would unify the Symbian OS, with S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) software to create an unparalleled Open Source software platform for converged mobile devices. The number of companies supporting the Symbian Foundation has already reached 78. Teleca is one of these companies.
“Teleca is better prepared for the Symbian Foundation than any other company in the industry!” Chandrashekar Challagonda, who is responsible for making Teleca a significant player within the Foundation, says confidently.

Promising outlook
“We have engagements with several customers and major operators in Europe who are developing their own application and customization suite, with handset vendors to support them in their creation of a mobile platform for the foundation. The recent Mobile World Congress produced many new interesting discussions, including those with Japanese companies. Symbian is the only mobile platform which has good configurability and support for both i-mode and non i-mode networks. So we expect there will be a lot of momentum from Japanese mobile vendors," says Chandra. “This means that there is a global unified momentum to create Symbian based devices and services,” he continues. “What we do now is to concentrate on developing service offerings in the ecosystem and to tailor these offerings for handset vendors, operators, semiconductor vendors or other interest groups. The Foundation is very positive for Teleca because of our global distribution.”
Bestshoring Symbian projects
Today, Teleca’s Symbian expertise is distributed between Europe, India, Russia and China. “We are able to use these competence centers to systematically build solutions and offerings to the global OEM customers. This way we will be able to use our unique position as a global wireless software engineering services company with focus on bestshoring i.e. providing the best combination of competencies around the world,” Chandra concludes.
